Redesigning AI-Responsive Assignments

Tuesday, September 29, 2026 :: 10:00-11:00 AM

Hybrid | Hyflex

Intended Audience: CMU Faculty

Facilitated by: Gabrielle Likavec and Sarah Learman

As generative AI continues to reshape the academic landscape, faculty are reevaluating assignment design to ensure assessments remain meaningful, rigorous, and aligned with course outcomes.

This hands-on workshop focuses on revising existing assignments to reduce opportunities for inappropriate AI use while preserving flexibility and student engagement. Participants will explore assignment design strategies that emphasize authentic learning, process-oriented work, reflection, and discipline-specific thinking. Guided work time and peer conversation will provide opportunities to apply these approaches directly to current course materials.

Faculty are encouraged to bring an assignment they would like to revise. By the end of the session, participants will have practical strategies and concrete revisions that can be implemented immediately.

This session will be offered in a HyFlex format, which will allow registrants to attend either Face to Face in Park 413D or via WebEx using the link included below.
