Supporting Students Series: Universal Design for Learning (UDL) 3.0 in Action: Igniting Learner Joy and Agency

In this interactive session, participants will explore the key innovations of Universal Design for Learning Guidelines 3.0, released by CAST in July 2024, including an expanded focus on learner identity (“who”), belonging, joy, play, interdependence, and systems of. Through case studies and collaborative activities tailored for college classrooms, we’ll unpack strategies across the three UDL principles: Engagement, Representation, and Action & Expression that allow us to: • Center learner identity & belonging: design options that affirm diverse student identities and foster community • Embed joy, empathy & collective practices: nurture emotional capacity and restorative learning environments • Challenge exclusionary norms: identify and dismantle systemic barriers in curricula and instructional design Participants will walk away with practical tools to foster learner agency and equity in their courses such as: identity-rich syllabus design, multimodal assessment strategies, and peer-supported learning structures—to foster learner agency and equity in their courses.

Lunch will be provided.
