Hosted by the Office of Curriculum and Instructional Support, in partnership with the Office of Information Technology and the University Library

Ready to move beyond theory and into action with generative AI? AI in Action: A Day of Discovery and Practice is a fully hands-on, in-person workshop designed for CMU faculty. Whether you’re just getting started with AI or looking to deepen your practice, this event offers the time, space, and support to explore how generative AI tools can enhance teaching, streamline workflow, and support student learning. Registrants are welcome to join us for half a day or all day, whatever fits your needs and schedule.

This full-day event features two distinct sessions:

Morning Session: The AI Playground (9:00 AM – 11:15 AM) Join us for a guided playground of generative AI tools where you’ll explore, compare, and reflect on different platforms and use cases. Engage in interactive activities that spark curiosity as you try out tools for text, image, audio, and more. This low-stakes, high-engagement session is designed to support discovery and experimentation, no matter your experience level.

Lunch Break (11:15 AM – 12:00 PM) Take a break, connect with colleagues, and continue the conversation over a lunch provided to registered attendees.

Afternoon Session: Practical Applications of AI (12:00 PM – 3:00 PM) Turn inspiration into implementation. In the afternoon, we’ll focus on applying AI in your teaching. You’ll explore how to meaningfully integrate AI into your assignments, course design, and instructor workflows. Through hands-on design time and collaborative discussion, you’ll leave with actionable strategies and draft materials you can use right away.

Participants should bring a laptop to make the most of this highly interactive event. A detailed schedule and list of the specific tools that will be explored will be shared prior to the event.
