In partnership with the Office of Research and Graduate Studies (ORGS), CIS is pleased to introduce the Building Excellence in Graduate Teaching Assistants Series. These sessions are designed to prepare graduate students for their teaching roles at CMU, enhance their teaching skills, increase their pedagogical knowledge and practice, and equip them with the tools and strategies necessary to support undergraduate education effectively. GTAs receive guidance in various pedagogical techniques, teaching methods, and classroom management strategies.
This interactive session explores strategies for handling challenging student behaviors like chatting, texting, and tardiness and will dive into the complexities of grading and assessment. Learn effective classroom management, active listening, empathy, and planning techniques. Discover efficient grading workflows, consistent grading methods, and how to provide actionable feedback. We will also cover difficult scenarios like plagiarism and grade disagreements. Enhance your teaching and grading skills with practical tips and CMU campus resources.
Lunch will be provided.
