Designing Writing Assignments in the Age of AI

As we support students in this age of AI, we need to consider how the design and implementation of our own writing assignments can influence the ways in which they approach the task. By examining samples of existing writing assignments from various disciplines, we will explore the components of an effective assignment and how to teach the moves of academic writing with generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Microsoft’s Co-Pilot. Moreover, we will examine an assignment of your own and consider how you might model using these tools in disciplinary-specific writing tasks.
NOTE: This session will be offered in a HyFlex format, which allows registrants to attend either face-to-face in Park 413 or via WebEx using the link included below.
