GTA Series - Fostering Student Success: Addressing Unique Student Needs and Identities (Session 6)

Friday, November 3, 2023 :: 12:00-1:30 PM

Park Library | 413

Intended Audience: CMU Graduate Teaching Assistants

Inclusivity. Learner-centered course design. Accommodations. How are these concepts vital to your teaching? Addressing unique student needs and identities is an important aspect of education that promotes inclusivity, equity, and student success. Recognizing and catering to the diverse needs of students helps create a supportive and inclusive learning environment where every student can thrive. In this interactive session, we will explore evidence-based practices in creating accessible course design, supporting students with accommodations, and sharing elements of universal design for learning (UDL). Lunch will be provided.

In partnership with the Office of Research and Graduate Studies (ORGS), CIS is pleased to introduce the Building Excellence in Graduate Teaching Assistants Series. These sessions are designed to prepare graduate students for their teaching roles at CMU, enhance their teaching skills, increase their pedagogical knowledge and practice, and equip them with the tools and strategies necessary to effectively support undergraduate education. GTAs receive guidance in various pedagogical techniques, teaching methods, and classroom management strategies.

NOTE: Registration for this session closes at 2:00 p.m. on the day prior to the session.
