GTA Series - Panel Discussion: Hidden Rules of Academia (Session 3)

Friday, September 22, 2023 :: 12:00-1:30 PM

Park Library | 413

Intended Audience: CMU Graduate Teaching Assistants

What questions would you ask a faculty member with a successful teaching and research record? In this interactive session, we will bring our questions to a panel of practitioners who have experienced all facets of college teaching: success, failures, and everything in between. The session explores the diverse instructional expertise of seasoned faculty who share their experience with humor, honesty, and candor. Attendees are encouraged to bring their questions and participate in this broader discussion about the hidden rules of thriving in academia. Lunch will be provided.

In partnership with the Office of Research and Graduate Studies (ORGS), CIS is pleased to introduce the Building Excellence in Graduate Teaching Assistants Series. These sessions are designed to prepare graduate students for their teaching roles at CMU, enhance their teaching skills, increase their pedagogical knowledge and practice, and equip them with the tools and strategies necessary to effectively support undergraduate education. GTAs receive guidance in various pedagogical techniques, teaching methods, and classroom management strategies.

NOTE: Registration for this session closes at 2:00 p.m. on the day prior to the session.
