Bringing the Lightboard to Light: Untapped Potential of the CIS Lightboard Makerspace (Face-to-Face Option)

Tuesday, September 20, 2022 :: 2:00-3:00 PM

Park Library | 413

Intended Audience: CMU Faculty

Facilitated by Phil Coffman, Sarah Learman

In addition to serving as an innovative tool for CMU instructors to create visually engaging on-demand video content for their courses, the CIS Lightboard Maker Space can be utilized to meet an array of instructional, logistical, and collaborative needs. The Lightboard Maker Space is an effective user-friendly tool for conducting live, interactive, virtual meetings (including synchronous class sessions), office hours, and so much more. This session will introduce and explore such additional uses of our Lightboard Maker Space, while incorporating an evidence-based instructional perspective from CIS Teaching and Learning Consultant, Dr. Sarah Learman. Whether it’s writing complex equations, conjugating verbs, or annotating diagrams for a live group, you’ll discover best practices and strategies for preparing instructional materials and facilitating your virtual interactions (classroom and otherwise!) using the Lightboard Maker Space. While participants explore and apply these features in real-time, this hands-on workshop will demonstrate how instructors can easily field questions from virtual participants and write a response on the lightboard without turning your back. This Hyflex offering will allow for limited in-person participants.
