CANCELED - Applying Rigor, Relevance, and Excellence in Your Teaching: A CLASS Excellence in Teaching and Learning Workshop

Friday, March 20, 2020 :: 3:30-5:00 PM

Park Library | 413

Intended Audience: CMU Faculty & Staff

Join the CLASS Excellence in Teaching and Learning Committee and the Office of Curriculum and Instructional Support for a hands-on workshop on course re-design. In keeping with President Davies’s call for rigor, relevance and excellence in our academic programs--and in response to CLASS’s strategic initiative to “transform programs to increase our reach to students and to prepare them for meaningful lives and fulfilling careers” through engaged, high-impact practices--the ETLC is offering an interactive workshop on creating active learning. We ask that you bring a course or specific assignment that you want to transform in rigorous and relevant ways; we’ll provide faculty mentors who will workshop ideas during the session. In particular, faculty experts will be on hand to guide you in the following areas:
  • Developing student expertise and agency through your assignments
  • Creating engagement in introductory-level courses
  • Integrating applied learning that is rigorous and relevant
  • Designing rigorous hybrid courses
  • Infusing practice-based learning into your courses

We welcome those who are curious about, contemplating, trying out, or experienced with active learning, flipped or hybrid formats, community engagement, and practice-based approaches. This session will provide you the time and space to get started or refine your teaching innovations.
