Open Class - BIO 211 - Foundations of Genetics
Monday, September 30, 2019 :: 2:00-2:50 PM
Biosciences Building |
Intended Audience: CMU Faculty
Facilitated by Steve Gorsich
This open class is BIO 211: Foundations of Genetics with Dr. Steve Gorsich. Visitors may observe genetics being taught in a modern active learning classroom using a team-based learning strategy, which encourages students to come prepared to class, work in teams, and solve advanced genetics problems in teams.
Would you like to see other educators teach? Check out this and other Open Class Concept sessions! We hope to help open a variety of classes each semester to allow CMU educators to observe a range of contemporary pedagogical practices across disciplines, environments, and formats or modalities.
This Is: A “silent” visit to a class facilitated by a faculty “host” who has agreed to participate. You’ll also receive an optional invitation to attend a later breakfast with all Open Class Concept hosts and visitors to ask questions, discuss teaching, network, and lend feedback on the pilot.
This Is Not: A critique or evaluation. Visitors will not offer feedback to the host on teaching. Instead, it is self-referential, helping visitors consider opportunities that may exist within their own teaching practice.
Participants will observe the teaching of one CMU educator, reflecting on the experience through a four-question survey.
Event to take place in Room #1015
