Open Class - ENG 175WI - Nature of Language

Monday, September 23, 2019 :: 5:00-6:25 PM

Anspach | room 257

Intended Audience: CMU Faculty

Facilitated by April Burke

This open class is ENG 175WI: Nature of Language with Dr. April Burke. Visitors to this writing intensive course session may observe a series of engaging and interactive methods, including game-like activities, for teaching both subject matter content (linguistics) and writing skills.

Would you like to see other educators teach? Check out this and other Open Class Concept sessions! We hope to help open a variety of classes each semester to allow CMU educators to observe a range of contemporary pedagogical practices across disciplines, environments, and formats or modalities.

This Is: A “silent” visit to a class facilitated by a faculty “host” who has agreed to participate. You'll also receive an optional invitation to attend a later breakfast with all Open Class Concept hosts and visitors to ask questions, discuss teaching, network, and lend feedback on the pilot.

This Is Not: A critique or evaluation. Visitors will not offer feedback to the host on teaching. Instead, it is self-referential, helping visitors consider opportunities that may exist within their own teaching practice.

Participants will observe the teaching of one CMU educator, reflecting on the experience through a four-question survey.
