In the online modality, the discussion board is the “hub” of the classroom—where students bring their perspectives together, and meaningful teaching and learning takes place. However, managing discussions can feel one-dimensional and underwhelming. With practical techniques, educators can foster inspiration, creativity, communication, and peer connections. In this interactive session, we will describe various techniques to increase engagement and participation, illustrate effective discussion questions, and demonstrate various methods to increase presence, critical thinking, and meaningful learning.
